The Manila International Book Fair has been running for four years already and I haven’t been to a single one! That will change this year because I have plans on going there to purchase some books for the kids, myself and for Christmas. Yup, shopping for presents already because we all know Christmas starts in September here in the Philippines. (Pasok Tito Jose Mari Chan, lol!)
Anyway, the book fair will run from September 11-15, 2019 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. I am planning to go on the 13th and I am hoping I’d be able to get all the books on my list. I already got some tickets courtesy of Fully Booked.
At the top of my list are books from Adarna House. The kids were given the Sanayang Adarna books before and they liked the activities inside.
These are some of the books that I am planning to buy because Adarna has the Tagalog books that I wanted the kids to have so they can learn to speak and read Tagalog better. Plus, Adarna books are always wonderfully illustrated!
I am also planning to check out books from Tahanan Books. These look interesting and might just help my third grader more with his Filipino lessons.
Another publishing house that I am looking forward to visit is CSM Publishing. The Veggie Tales Growing Day by Day Devotional for Boys that my kids and I read before bedtime were published by CSM. I highly recommend this devotional because aside from the prayers, there are also daily tips that will help our sons be compassionate towards others and to strengthen their faith. This book is priced at P280 but you can purchase it for only P100 at the MIBF. Great gift idea!
Next, I am hoping that these books from Fully booked will be sold at discounted prices. From the series title itself, it is a twisted, re-imagined tale of some of Disney’s well known fairy tales.
Alongside the selling of books, MIBF also arranged some talks , story telling and book signings. I am particularly looking forward to catching Chinkee Tan when he talks about his book “Pera ni Mister Pera ni Misis” on September 13, 1:30-3:00 pm.
Tickets are sold at the venue at the following prices:
General Admission P35.00
Students, Librarians, Senior Citizens, and PWDS: P20.00
But, you can get passes absolutely free. You can either go to any Fully Booked branch and ask their customer service, like what I did, or you can go to the following links that will direct you to the exhibitors’ pages where you can download and print free passes:
