I finally gave in to the K-drama fever last year. I know, I know, I’ve been hiding under a rock all this time! On my way home from work, while on a bus, this Korean drama is on and I saw the cutest boy ever on the screen.
At the time, I realized I don’t really like the dubbed version (no offense to those who do) and I wanted to watch the original one. So, as soon as I arrived home, I went to Netflix and searched if the K-drama series was there and it was!
My ID is Gangnam Beauty
My ID is Gangnam Beauty features Im Soo-hyang and Cha Eun-Woo. The story revolves around college student Kang Mi-rae (Im Soo-hyang) who underwent cosmetic surgery after being bullied her entire childhood. In college, she meets Do Kyung Suk (Cha Eun-Woo), who happened to be a former schoolmate and knew how she looked like prior to the surgery yet loved her for who she was.
I tell you, never have I ever been this kilig over a story. I downloaded episodes on Netflix so I can still watch on my way to work but then decided to stop because I kept on smiling whenever Cha Eun-Woo is on the screen! I must have looked silly to the rest of the commuting public but my gosh, this boy. Oh my almost-40-year-old heart is swooning!
Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung
Since, I am still not over the cuteness of Cha Eun-Woo, as soon as I finished My ID is Gangnam Beauty, I searched for another K-drama that had him as the lead actor. That’s how I came across Rookie Historian Goo Hae-Ryung.
This drama is about the life of Goo Hae-Ryung (Shin Se-kyung), who became one of the female historians of the royal court, a position that was unheard of at the time since the title Historian is only being given to men. While being an apprentice historian, she meets Prince Yi Rim, played by Cha Eun-Woo, who unknowing to her was the same person as Maehwa, a romance novel writer that she detested. The story is not only about love but one about fighting for women’s rights and never giving up on your dreams. The hardships that Goo Hae-Ryung needed to face just to become a Historian, the history behind the character of Prince Yi Rim and the funny banter of the lead characters, Rookie Historian Goo Hae-Ryung is worth the watch!
The Legend of the Blue Sea
The popular Lee Min-Ho and Jun Ji-hyun play the lead roles in this Kdrama inspired by the classic Korean historical tale of a fisherman who captures a mermaid.
Heo Joon-jae (Lee Min-ho), a con-man at the present meets Se-hwa (Jun Ji-hyun), a mermaid. The series focuses on reincarnation and features the past and present lives of Joon-Jae and Se-hwa, how their lives are so parallel to each other and how they avoided the same ending as their past lives had – the death of each other.
Jun Ji-hyun and Lee Min-ho are no doubt the most beautiful looking Korean actors of their time. Their chemistry is unmistakable and watching them both onscreen is a treat already!
Something in the Rain
Yoon Jin-ah (Son Ye-Jin), a woman in her mid-30s who falls in love with Seo Joon-hee (Jung Hae-in), her bestfriend’s younger brother. The story revolves around the May-December love story of the leads who tried to hide their relationship from the people around them.
This one’s another light, Nakakakilig kdrama. Wait for that episode where they first held hands!
